I’m not a smoker but if I was I would watch out for these tobacco “candies”, that the tobacco industry is testing. From the looks of it I can see how a child would possibly mistake the tobacco candy for Tic Tacs or any other mint candies packaged this way. Of course, I see how under-aged teens would try these candies with possibilities of hiding their smoking in schools.

Needless to say, the Tobacco candy is underway of being recalled. Check out this video below and read the full CNN Tobacco Candy Report

If you’ve been following my blog, then you know the popularity of creating your own chocolate candy bars at two websites that I have reviewed: Chocri and Chocomize. Chocri originated in Germany and due to its popularity decided to try the U.S. markets and with their recent launch it has been successful and popular. Chocomize company which is based in the U.S. has had great success as well. This is not just a fade but very much “in style” and a growing trend. However, I would LOVE to see non-chocolate “create my own gummy candy” for example!

So yesterday I saw in the news that the Hershey Chocolate World visiting center will offer visitors a chance to make their own chocolate as well. How cool is that? If you check out the Chocri video demo that I did you saw my excitement creating the candy bar but imagine in the chocolate factory creating your own chocolate! Well its possible if you visit the Hershey Chocolate world during this Summer 2010.

Valentines Day is right around the corner, so I would highly recommend using any of those create my own chocolate websites, because it adds a special touch as a Valentines Candy gift!

Many of you may or may not know that Chicago is known as Candy Capital of the World, second nickname after the Windy City. Well filmmaker Michael Lahey is filming his new documentary “Shelf Life”. It is based on the Chicago candy industry, and his families ties to it. Here is the full synopsis of the documentary which is due to debut in 2010. You can visit the website to get updates if you’re interested!

City of Broad Shoulders. Hog Butcher to the World. The Windy City. Second City. Chicago has held several nicknames over the years, but one lesser-known moniker is Candy Capital of the World, a title Chicago has maintained for more than a century. Mars, Brach’s, Wrigley’s, and Jelly Bellies, to name a few, each made their mark here. This is a city where on West Kinzie Street even the air smells of chocolate. Chicago’s candy history is as old as the city itself, started by European immigrants who brought with them a variety of Old World candy-making recipes and skills, helping pave the way for Chicago’s industrial candy revolution seven decades later. But even after the rise of the industry giants, pockets of ingenious and resourceful candy craftsmen continued to carve out a sizable niche. Italian immigrant Elmo Lanzi was one such person.

For 64 years, Lanzi Candy Company was part of Chicago confectionery history, featuring a variety of distinctive, mouth-watering delights that included hand-dipped chocolate cordial cherries, vanilla- and licorice-flavored caramels, and dark chocolate fruit and nut assortments. But it was during a brief retirement in 1959 when Elmo, experimenting with new recipes at age 65, would create his most popular candy: the Cashew Nut Crunch. The Cashew Nut’s unique taste made it a favorite for decades. Local aficionados sent holiday gift boxes throughout the country, creating an annual letter-writing frenzy from new out-of-town converts. This list included Ann Landers, big band leader and future Lanzi spokesperson Guy Lombardo, and a Vermont college student who so adored the candy that he was dubbed by his peers “Lanzi,” a distinction he wrote was “an honor.”

Another Lanzi’s candy admirer was Chicago-area businessman Jerry Ostermann, who would take his admiration to another level. In 2005, Ostermann decided to make a radical shift from his successful import/export company into the candy business. Rather than create a new confection, Jerry’s interest was focused squarely on his favorite candy: the Cashew Nut Crunch. Problem was, Jerry hadn’t seen or tasted it since the 1980s. He wondered, like many on candy blogs across the Internet, how a candy this good could just disappear. What happened to Lanzi’s, and how can Jerry resurrect a candy that’s been dead for 25 years with neither the recipe nor the machinery to make it?

Award-winning filmmaker Michael Lahey, grandson of Elmo Lanzi, sets out to answer these questions in the documentary Shelf Life. Following Jerry’s quest to recreate Elmo’s most famous confection will take Lahey deep into the heart of both the Chicago candy industry and the Lanzi family itself, and provide a revealing look into how Chicago was transformed into a city of sweets, and why it struggles to maintain its position as Candy Capital of the World.

I’m so excited and I can’t wait to see some new and scary candy out there! Plus costumes although this year, I bet the Michael Jackson costume will be the most popular..

With a little over a month until Halloween and I will be posting Halloween Candy Contest, New Halloween Candies, Halloween Candy List and more! Hopefully, I can push in the candy contest that I didn’t have chance to start due to vacation and moving around… But now that I’m pretty much back on track. Be ready for Halloween reviews and posts!

I didn’t realize until today after reading a blog post about Maoam Fruit Chew Candy and their freaky candy wrappers! There is a father outraged about the wrappers. I tasted Maoam chews for the first time during my travels to England once and they reminded me exactly of Mambo Fruit Chews. There seem to have been strong complaints about the candy wrapper that could suggest to any adult a little “TLC” going on..LOL.. But I guess the controversy is overrated, because if a kid in my opinion looks at this wrapper it only suggests cuddling and friendship. But for a “freaky” adult it could mean more than a little TLC..

Anyway, Maoams are really good, fruity and juicy. They come in the following flavors and packaged exactly like Mamba Chews.

Each cube shaped MAOAM Mini contains five single MAOAM sweets. MAOAM Minis are available as 5-packs in all five fruit flavors, as 3-packs of:

Strawberry

Orange

Raspberry

Minis are also availabe in countline fomat in sour apple, sour cherry and sour orange flavor.
